Reorienting English Protestantism

This special issue seeks to expand the intellectual landscape of English Protestantism over course its long Reformation from early sixteenth through late seventeenth centuries. England's protracted conflict Protestant identity encouraged diversification orientations sacred texts and religious traditions, stretching it beyond western Europe eastern Mediterranean world. The essays examine engagement with Hellenic, Hebraic, Arabic sources traditions within a wider context than typically explored in existing narratives. They illustrate how scholarship reinforced stereotypes, while also prompting self-reflection inspiring reconstruction own cultural assumptions. Expanding ecclesiastical, theological, exegetical, philological, interests, volume calls for more fluid “connected history” understand full scope thought non-Western churches traditions.
